Project Aim [ Top Of Page ]

This research project is evaluating the incidence of overdosages and poisoning in Malta and is also considering the stereoselective disposition of designer amphetamines in humans. It has only been recently shown that there may be stereoselective differences between the metabolism of MDMA enantiomers and this proposed work will establish novel methodologies in the detection and separation of related amphetamines, investigating correlations, if any, between enantiomer ratios in biological fluids of drug abusers and related toxicity. Drug doping in sport in Malta is also being investigated.
