Dr. Carmen Depasquale
Head,
Department of French and
Lecturer in French Language
Dr. Carmen Depasquale is Head
of the Department of French at the University
of Malta. After pursuing her literary studies at the
Universities of London and Tours, she was
awarded her doctorate from Sorbonne
University (Paris IV)
with her thesis La Vie intellectuelle et culturelle des chevaliers
français à Malte au XVIIIe siècle. Her main areas of interest are the
works of French Knights of Malta in the eighteenth century and French travel
literature on Malta. Her publications include an annotated
edition with an introduction and translation into English of the comedy Le
Commandeur dans sa famille (Agenda, Malta, 2005), an eighteenth century
manuscript of the National Library of Malta, as well as articles in French,
English and Maltese in learned journals.
She has read papers at conference in Europe, the USA and Canada, and has been a guest
lecturer at a number of French Universities.
The title Chevalière dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques was conferred
upon her in recognition of her contribution towards French culture.
